Belnet is proud to be part of the EGI Federation – the largest network of research data centres in Europe and beyond. Within this federation, researchers have a single point of access to advanced computing, storage, and data management services for data-intensive research.
Since last year, Belnet has been representing Belgium in the EGI Council, on behalf of the Federal Science Policy Office (Belspo). Belnet has taken over the role previously held by Belspo and is actively working with the research community to drive further development and innovation within the EGI Federation.
What is EGI?
EGI (European Grid Infrastructure) provides researchers with a unified digital infrastructure that simplifies access to computing, storage, and data management services. With EGI, scientists can tackle complex research challenges – from climate studies to medical data analysis – faster and more efficiently.

Belnet’s role
As Belgium’s representative in the EGI Council, Belnet serves as the liaison between the EGI Federation and the Belgian research community. Our goal is to make the voice of Belgian researchers heard at the European level while fostering new opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
