I already have a PID service, can I migrate it to Belnet?
Handle.net CNRI USA or other consortia users can migrate to Belnet but this requires careful planning.
Belnet offers 2 levels of migration:
- Belnet can take over the hosting service but your records are kept in the USA.
- Migrate to a new prefix at Belnet
What happens if I stop renewing the service?
The ePIC policy foresees that you’ll lose the ability to update your PIDs and create new ones. Your existing PIDs will be switched to read-only mode and will be stored for 10 years. After that, people will be redirected to a tombstone page stating that the record they were looking for belonged to your organization and is now defunct. The same prefix cannot be reused anymore or issued to someone else.
