Belnet supports your transformation to the Cloud
The shift to the Cloud and Cloud platforms is making progress and this has an impact on the expectations of the people we work with and the way they work. All members of the Belnet community are eligible to use the "GÉANT IaaS framework agreement". This framework grants you access to different Cloud solutions offerings (Infrastructure as a Service, IaaS) within a range of vendors and service providers.
Multiple good reasons to use the GÉANT framework agreement
Flexible and scalable solution
IaaS platforms offer highly scalable resources that can be customised on-demand. They are ideal for academic research characterized by workloads that are temporary, experimental, or subject to unexpected changes.
No need to launch separate Cloud tenders
The ready-to-use agreements comply with the EU data protection law and were established using the EC 2014/24/EU procurement directive, which allows you to use the services directly, without running your own tender / call for competition.
Support and guidance
Belnet and GÉANT will guide you through the introduction with the service providers. During the operational phase, you follow the contact procedures of the respective service providers for all your administrative, financial and technical questions.
Minimized cost and discounts
These Cloud solutions let you save costs by eliminating the need for major investments in IT infrastructure. In addition, the agreement offers numerous advantages such as:
- discounts (including egress waivers)
- pre-agreed general terms and conditions
- support from the GÉANT Cloud team
Did you know?
In addition to this already existing Cloud framework agreement, a successor is being worked on. This new, more extensive framework agreement that includes next to IaaS also PaaS, SaaS and Earth Observation data services, is expected to be available from Q1 2020. Discussions are currently underway with Microsoft, AWS, Google Cloud and other cloud vendors.
