From 29 February, your R&E organisation can join the DataCite Belgium Consortium set up by Belnet and take advantage of a membership fee at a very attractive price.

After being announced last November, the Belnet DataCite Consortium is now available to your organisation, if you are a member of the R&E community.

Never heard of DataCite? This international non-profit organisation enables researchers to gain credit and recognition for their research by sharing their data.

With the creation of the Consortium, if your organisation becomes a member, your researchers will be able to register their research data and assign digital object identifiers (DOIs). These unique, permanent numbers make it easy to find all references to articles, software, results publications, research publications, grey literature or conference proceedings.

A Consortium to save you €1,500/year

If you wish to take advantage of the service without going through the Consortium, your organisation will have to pay the standard €2,000 membership fee to DataCite. However, if you become a member of the Consortium set up by Belnet, you'll only pay an annual fee of €500. In addition to this very attractive price, you'll have to pay an annual fee based on the number of DOIs you wish to use each year.

To support the growth of consortia and their adoption within communities, the total Consortium service fee (organisation fee + DOI fee) is capped according to the number of organisations. The total ceiling is calculated on the basis of the total number of organisations in the Consortium.

How should you proceed?

  • If you are already a DataCite member, you can terminate your membership at the end of the calendar year (subject to two months' notice, i.e. by 31 October at the latest). Your organisation will then be integrated into the Consortium.
  • If you are not yet a member of the Consortium, we encourage you to register by contacting us directly.
