As part of our Service Improvement Programme, in early October we initiated a series of changes to make the Belnet network more resistant to DDoS attacks. The cooperation of all our member organisations is crucial to the success of this project.
Since March, we have regularly updated our community, using our various communication channels, on the necessary changes to their Point-to-Point IP addresses. These modifications are necessary to effectively deploy our anti-DDoS systems in volumetric attacks.
The next phase of the project began in early October; this involves the activation of filters to block all data traffic from outside to the Point-to-Point IP addresses of our member organisations.
Phased approach
The filters will be activated in several stages and this process will continue until the end of November. In total, some 5,000 IP addresses will be filtered, divided into 22 blocks of IP ranges. One-third has already been filtered at present. All Belnet customers (TCP) will be notified in advance of the exact timing of the implementation of the filters specific to their organisation.
If your organisation is not (yet) compliant with the changes to its Point-to-Point IP addresses, please notify our Service Desk. We can then adjust our schedule in consultation with you to avoid interruptions in your connectivity.
We also take a proactive approach by contacting our clients immediately if we detect any problems or interruptions, through our monitoring, after the filters are installed.
