The heart of the Belgian Internet celebrates 25th anniversary

This month, BNIX (Belgian National Internet eXchange) celebrates its 25th anniversary. BNIX was set up in 1995 by Belnet and started at the time - as the Internet was slowly emerging - with six participants and one Point of Presence. 25 years later, 58 participants are connected to the platform and BNIX has three Points of Presence (Interxion in Zaventem, LCL in Diegem and CenturyLink in Evere).

Belnet uses Belnet Advanced Mail Security to improve the security of your e-mail traffic

E-mail security is crucial, given that the vast majority of all malware is installed via e-mail attachments. E-mail is also the most commonly used gateway for ransomware. This is why Belnet decided earlier this year to replace ‘Antispam Pro’ with a more advanced e-mail security platform. To this end, it entered into a partnership with Fortinet, one of the market leaders in the field of security.

Astronomers from the Institute of Astronomy (KU Leuven) operate Mercator telescope from a distance of 3,000 km

Thanks to the technology developed by the Institute of Astronomy and the high-performance Belnet connection, (future) astronomers will be able to continue their research from 3,000 kilometres away during the COVID-19 crisis. Belnet spoke with Prof. Hans Van Winckel, Head of Astronomy at the KU Leuven.
