How can BAMS help me to protect my data?

BAMS provides a robust set of capabilities for data loss prevention, identity-based email encryption, and archiving to help prevent the inadvertent loss of sensitive information and maintain compliance with corporate policies and industry regulations.

What are the differences with the old Antispam pro solution?

  • BAMS offers much more configuration options.
  • While our old anti-spam solution was more focused on threat prevention, BAMS also offers features to protect your data.
  • BAMS has new features such as Sandbox Analysis, Identity based email encryption, Archiving and Outbreak protection.

Can the Belnet Advanced Mail Security solution be fine-tuned?

Belnet will deliver a default set of rules which the customer can fine-tune himself with the support of Belnet if necessary.

Can I use BAMS, even if my organisation is not a member of the Belnet R&E Federation?

Yes, you don't need to be a Belnet R&E Federation member.

How can I prevent my email systems from becoming threat delivery systems?

BAMS is even capable of doing outgoing mail protection, there are a lot of different techniques to prevent that like Virusscanning, Fortiguard and Sandbox Analysis,...).

How can I determine the limits and sizing of my organisation's virtual machine?

Your appliance (VM00 ; VM01 ; VM02 etc.) is determined by the number of domains you use and the number of emails sent per hour.

   VM00  VM01  VM02
 Domains  2  20  100
 Associated Domains  10  50  200
 Mails/h that can be processed  2700  26000  52000

All the limitations details by instance can be found on the Fortimail Maximum Values.

What is an Associated Domain?

A domain refers to an SMTP server that is used as a mail server. On that mail server, there is a main domain and there can be associated domains, nevertheless they run on the same mail server.

Example: Belnet.be is a domain and BNIX.be is another one.

These could run on the same mail server but are configured in such a way that they are 2 distinctive domains: Belnet.be is the main domain and BNIX.be is the associated domain.

How many permitted files and URLs can my organisation submit per minute and per day with the Sandbox Analysis?

It depends on the sizing of your virtual machine (VM00; VM01; VM02 etc.)

   VM00  VM01  VM02
Permitted File submissions per minute  5  10  20
Permitted File submissions per day   7200  14400  28800
Permitted URL submissions per minute  1  2  4
Permitted URL submissions per day   1440  2880  5760

How to get access to the management interface as Admin?

  • Sign your agreement and send it to Belnet. (only if you are a new customer)
  • Belnet will proceed to your service validation and create your account on the Fortinet interface.
  • Visit the Fortinet interface and log in with your initial credentials (login + password) that Fortinet sent you.

How to get access to the management interface as end-user?

Use the same URL as for an administrator but without "/admin" at the end : https://youracronym.bams.belnet.be

How BAMS is deployed within Belnet?

The design of this service exists of one virtual appliance per customer. This appliance will be deployed on the Belnet network.

The product is only used as gateway mode, meaning that all mail is passing to the Fortimail appliance and then forwarded (if not quarantined) to the customer mail server.

You can configure the filtering by using a web interface, API or CLI according to your needs.

What are the advantages of the Office 365 Plug In in Fortimail?

The following benefits are only possible from VM02 onwards and at an additional cost/licence.

  • Scheduled scan:

Scan, for example, all e-mails of the past week every weekend (with an update of the virus database, spam database, ... or possibly adapted anti-spam rules).

  • Move e-mails to a folder in the mailbox (e.g. junk mail):

For example, move spam to the "junk" (or other) folder instead of the "personal quarantine" on BAMS.

  • Mark mail that has already arrived as spam:

For example, a mail containing a suspicious URL or other content has been received, remove it from the end user's mailbox using a manual scan/search.

  • Scan internal mail as well:

For example, mail from an employee in your organisation does not normally go through Fortimail, but thanks to the Office API, it can still be scanned.

Is there a manual?

On the Fortinet documentation portal you can find a whole set of manuals and documentation including Administration Guides, Cookbook, Reference Manuals (CLI Reference, Maximum Values, REST API Reference, Log Reference), Installation Guides, User Guides and Webmail Guide (User Guides, Guide Server, Guide Transparent).
