A good security policy takes into account the human side of security. Do your employees and end users recognise cyber risks? Are they up to date concerning the latest threats? And do they know how to deal with security incidents? European Cybersecurity Month is the perfect time for creating awareness. With free tools and materials from GÉANT and Safeonweb, you can get started right away.

GÉANT: focus upon social engineering

Ever since 2020, Belnet has contributed to the annual awareness campaign of the European research network GÉANT. Also this year, GÉANT will be launching a campaign aimed at raising awareness about cyber security in the European R&E community.

With the tagline "Your brain is the first line of defence", this year's GÉANT campaign is all about social engineering. Cybercriminals use all sorts of manipulative techniques in order to trick people into releasing confidential information. With this campaign, GÉANT wants to encourage users always to think critically and remain vigilant so that they can always stay one step ahead of cybercriminals.

What can you expect?

  • In four videos, we follow the adventures of Jake Doubt, a security expert who sets out to investigate when several individuals within his university face strange requests. In a playful manner, various topics will be covered such as deepfakes, spear phishing, romance scams and tailgating. You may use the material free of charge. The videos are also available with subtitles in Dutch and French.
  • Inspiring interviews and blog posts on the CONNECT website during the whole month of October.
  • Short videos in which experts explain in a simple way how to protect against various forms of social engineering. Some Belnet colleagues have also contributed their share!
  • A series of free webinars in which security and awareness experts share their insights concerning topics such as insider threats, social engineering and the risks associated with AI. Check out the full programme and register soon!
  • Also be sure to follow GÉANT's social media channels on (LinkedIn - InstagramMastodon) and share your updates with the hashtags #CSM24 and #CyberSecMonth.

Safeonweb: campaign around 2FA

The Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium, Febelfin and the Cyber Security Coalition will once again be joining forces for an annual cybersecurity campaign. This year's focus is upon two-step authentication (2FA) as an essential protection against cybercriminals. The campaign has been launched on 25 September.

As a partner of the campaign, Belnet encourages you to use the available campaign materials. That includes ready-made presentations, posters, videos and social media content.
