The Belnet programme was created in 1993 at the request of universities. To this day Belnet provides not only the connectivity for all Belgian universities, but also their interconnection with the European research network GÉANT and with other international research networks, thus contributing to academic collaboration worldwide.
In addition, Belnet offers a wide range of services such as identity management services, a file-sharing tool like FileSender, cloud services and, of course, eduroam. Eduroam allows students and researchers to use Wi-Fi securely at all connected institutions around the world using their home institution login credentials.
"Access to the university library's electronic resources should be as easy as possible. In this area, eduGAIN has a real lead. With a single login, users have access to almost all the resources available electronically, whether they log in on campus or elsewhere. Moreover, it means saving time. Currently, we can offer more than 65% of our electronic resources through Belnet and eduGAIN. And this number is continuing to grow."
