GÉANT GN5-1

Through its active involvement in the GN5-1 project, Belnet seeks to contribute to the further development of the e-infrastructure for European research and educational institutions.

GÉANT is a fundamental part of Europe's e-infrastructure, providing the pan-European GÉANT network for scientific excellence, research, education and innovation. Connections to 39 national research and education network partners (NRENs), including Belnet, make the GÉANT network the largest and most advanced R&E network in the world.

In 2021, the GÉANT Association and Europe concluded a new 7-year collaboration agreement (2021-2027). The GN5 Framework Partnership Agreement sets the outline for the overall strategy, objectives and impact of the projects to be implemented in the Horizon Europe programme – the EU's main funding programme for research and innovation.

The role of Belnet

Belnet will play a prominent role in the initial phase of this ambitious project (GN5-1) for a period of at least 2 years (2023-2024).

GN5 is structured into several "work packages", each of which encompasses a specific domain of activity. Belnet will be represented in several of these working groups, namely Security (e.g. Security Awareness, Security Governance & Policies), Network Development (e.g. Network Automation) and Trust & Identity (e.g. eduroam).
