UAntwerpen has chosen Belnet guestroam to provide visitors with simplified and secure access to its wireless network. Maddy Hennebert, head of the Belnet guestroam service at UAntwerpen, kindly shared with us her experience in contact with a solution that her university adopted 2 years ago.

Access to eduroam for invited visitors

Maddy Hennebert: "The SSID eduroam is available everywhere on our campus. Thanks to guestroam, guest accounts can be created on request for external persons in order to connect to eduroam. And using NPS (Network Policy Server) on radius server, the guest is redirected to a separate vlan very simply."

"These created guest accounts can only be used within the campus. Conversely, accounts created in other universities/high schools do not give access to our wireless network."

Very useful during events and courses given to university externs

Maddy Hennebert: "In our case, Belnet guestroam is used mainly during events, but it is also used by the departments of UAntwerpen throughout the courses given for external students to our university."

"Access can be requested by the guest in advance, but can also be consulted with a "validator" during the visit. In both cases, the guest receives their credentials, by e-mail and SMS."

The service is very simple to implement

Maddy Hennebert: "Our radius servers only need to be specified once. Then, an "event" or a "department" is created on request. You must designate an "approver" who can quickly and easily send access to the guest. A "validator" or an "approver" can also create a guest account, thanks to the identification information which is immediately sent to the invitation by e-mail and SMS."

18 institutions have already seen this solution. Do you also want to facilitate the reception of your visitors and be one of the many users of Belnet guestroam?
