9 out of 10 cyber-attacks use insecure Internet or DNS connections to gain access to a network. With Advanced DNS Security, Belnet aims to provide you with additional security on top of your firewall and antivirus software.

As of 1 April, as a Belnet customer, you can subscribe to the new paid service, Advanced DNS Security. To this end, Belnet entered into a four-year framework agreement with Secutec, an international Belgian company specialising in cyber security. This allows Belnet to offer you a competitive price per employee. Students, patients and visitors who use your Wi-Fi network are also protected free of charge. Devices connected to the Internet such as servers, scanners, and printers are also secured.

Advanced DNS Security goes one step further than the existing Belnet services DNS Service and Belnet Intelligent DNS, helping to better protect your network from malware, phishing or other cyber-attacks.

How does Advanced DNS Security work?

All DNS requests from your network are automatically forwarded to Secutec's Secure DNS server. The domain reputation of the requested URL is immediately checked against a SIAM database, which centralises local and international feeds. If the domain is categorised as insecure in the database, the connection will not be established. Blocking corrupt connections at this level prevents traffic to malicious websites.

Looking back on a hugely successful webinar

On Thursday 17 March, Belnet and Secutec organised a Dutch and French language webinar about the new DNS security service. Both sessions were well attended, with 67 and 34 participants respectively.

Geert Baudewijns (founder and CEO of Secutec) explained that the added value of Advanced DNS Security over the solutions of the large commercial security software providers lies mainly in the thousands of IoCs it receives daily from international security partners as well as local authorities such as the CERT.be and CCB.

As for further benefits of the service, Geert listed: its proactive 24-hour block of new, as yet uncategorised domain names, its fast implementation, its compatibility with different IT networks and, last but not least, 24/7 monitoring by Secutec.

He then provided a demonstration of the dashboard, which provides a detailed view of all blocked threats. The dashboard can be fully customised with personalised reports and alerts.

The webinar concluded with a Q&A session in which Belnet customers received answers to their many questions.

If you missed the webinar, you can watch it here.
