The pan-European research network GÉANT received formal approval last month for the GN5 Framework Partnership Agreement (FPA). The GN5 FPA is a 7-year strategic framework that outlines the overall direction, objectives, and impacts of individual projects within that timeframe as part of Horizon Europe.
Horizon Europe is the EU's key funding programme for research and innovation. The new agreement focuses on the crucial role of GÉANT and its partner organisations (the national research and education networks such as Belnet) in further developing e-infrastructure at the service of European research and education institutions.
Next steps
Once the FPA signature stage is completed, formal project proposals (Specific Grant Agreements) can be finalised and submitted. These Specific Grant Agreements will specify the projects within GN5 and the partners that will participate in the different working groups.
Currently, Belnet is already represented in different working groups of the GN4-3 project. It is Belnet's ambition and goal to play an even more prominent role in the new GN5 project in order to contribute to the development of specific services for research institutes in Belgium and all over Europe.
