In the summer of 2020, the CISOs of 5 French-speaking universities started a working group to share their experiences in the field of information security.

The working group, consisting of the Chief Information Security Officers of the Universities of Liège, Louvain-La-Neuve, Mons, Namur and the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), meets monthly and serves as a forum for the exchange of knowledge on good security practices and for the mutual sharing of experiences.

G. Pappas (CISO) and F. Van Liedekerke (Services & Security Coordinator) of Belnet had the opportunity to participate in a meeting of the working group in September and were very enthusiastic afterwards: "We were able to make a good initial contact with some French-speaking CISOs and exchange ideas and experiences with regard to security policies, procedures and approaches."

Belnet, in collaboration with the Centre for Cyber Security Belgium (CCB), is currently running a number of projects aimed at proactively safeguarding its community. The members of the interuniversity working group were very interested in these projects. However, Belnet also wants to play a connecting role as a neutral partner and promote dialogue and the exchange of knowledge. As such, we hope to have a similar consultation with the CISOs of the Dutch-speaking universities in 2021.
