Belnet has long been a major player in the field of open science, including through its role as a mandated organisation of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) Association. The company recently took on another new innovative project, the Federal Open Science Cloud (FedOSC). We spoke to Sam Kauranne, FedOSC Product Manager, who explained to us what exactly FedOSC is and what the project means to our community.

Since 2016, Belnet has been connecting the Federal Scientific Institutions (FSIs) with the internet and each other using the ScienceMAN network. One of the best known member organisations is undoubtedly the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI).
ONDRAF/NIRAS is amongst the first federal government organisations for which Belnet, under the framework agreement with Telenet Business, is providing WAN connectivity between sites. Belnet spoke to Werner Ramaekers, ICT manager at NIRAS, who is closely monitoring the project.
